Isophthalic acid is an organic compound with the chemical formula C8H6O4. It is a white crystalline powder that is soluble in water, alcohols, and some organic solvents. Isophthalic acid is commonly used as a building block for the production of polyester resins, which are widely used in the manufacture of plastics, fibers, and coatings. It is also used as a precursor for the synthesis of pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, and various other chemicals.
